something someone forgot about

was where love came from

that feeling that hatches in the bottom of your stomach

the moment that boy first calls you beautiful

you then begin to mother this feeling

nurture it as it grows arms and legs and a heart of its own

until it grows a mind of its own too

and no longer listens when mommy

hears that boy call her best friend beautiful

and no longer listens when mommy’s heart breaks into pieces

instead it decides to live

and dictate the way mommy feels about that boy

countering the hate she feels with the love

and the memories this feeling remembers

because that boy is the only reason this feeling exists

why it is alive and breathing

and if mommy doesn’t love that boy anymore

this feeling will die
