Lilly
Disturbed
They laugh and point
She Stands up with tears on her face
Kids calling her names
Remembering her Grandmother's words
Lilly fights back for herself.
Nobody to help
Nobody to hold
Only one to share her nightmares with
One is all she needs
But she can't look at herself the same
Since she realized, Yes she was gay
She made the mistake to tell only one.
Nobody brings her out of the darkness
Abandoned and Alone
No Mother, No Father
Dreamed of a life where
Everyone still loved her.
Seemed like life just hated her
Until her Grandmother came
Made it the happiest moment of her life
By saying just a few words
"I love you the way you are.
Yes, you are different, but nobody can change the way I feel about you Lilly."
Her heart felt heavy.
Nobody had ever said
Anything so nice to her
In her life
Tears ran into her eyes
She held her Grandmother's hand.
Sunlight
Shone through the curtains
It reminded Lilly
Of all the good times
That were now gone
But slowly slinking back.
Times with money
Luck and Happiness
No more grief for
A short time, Except at School.
She prayed to God
That Someone
Would at least
Accept her
For who she is
But Nobody ever did.
Always nice to everyone else
But they weren't to her.
Cried herself to sleep
Because hard times came back
Grandmother was sick.
Her favorite person;
With death looking her straight in the face
Ignored her own problems
Just for Grandma
When she asked about them
All Lilly said was no.
And Grandmother would smile.
Then Lilly would smile back.
Big bulky boxes
By Grandmother's bed
For her treatments
Grandmother's cigarettes
Sadly
But finally
Caught up to her
Lilly sat next to the bed
For hours
And Sulked
While Grandmother slept.
And she slept...
More and More
Everyday.
The Conversations
Ended faster
When Grandma
Just decided
It was her bedtime.
Lilly stroked her thin, frail hair
And Repeated the words
Grandmother once said to her
"I love you. I will forever.
I will die still loving you."
Tears
Fill Lilly's eyes.
She knows
That Grandmother
Will die soon.
Lilly spent
Her every moment
With Grandmother
In Silence
Because she always
Wanted to take a nap
She lay
by her side
Like Grandmother
was always
To her.
One Summer Evening
In July
Lilly came to visit
The Room was empty
Except for Grandmother.
Lilly knew what had happened.
and sat by her side, and then whispered "Goodbye."
Lilly knew
In her heart
That Grandmother
Was in a better place
No more pain or suffering
grandmother was
Lilly's hero
The kids finally
Decided that
It wasn't worth
Their time
To bully a poor girl
Who just lost
A member of her family.
