From the Beginning

If I started from the beginning
Of our story
It would begin with a mutual friend

And dark nights
And walking
Talking
Wishing
Hoping
Praying

S'mores
And concerts
Singing
The huddle
Holding hands.

Screaming
And yelling
Gossip
And clowns

Air hockey
Painting
Our names
Being loud

Card games
And apples
Your sisters
Our friends

When I am with you
The fun never ends

Jet skis
And monkey bars
Lakes
And salad

Running
On grass
Calling their names

Speaking Spanish
Our call
You made me insane

Mouthing words
My makeup
Your grin

Messages
On Facebook
Smiley face
Emoticons

Where has the love
We had once shared gone?

We spent hours together
Singing
And dancing
In the car

Telling secrets
Rapping
Pretending

The time
In the library
When I fell asleep

Or the secret roof hideout
A team of you and me

The rip off cereal brand
And pie we both loved

Smuggled sand
Spanish names
I would've fallen in love!

When you asked for my help
And you didn't need it
The time when you smiled
And said I was beautiful

Jump rope
Hand games
Red rover
It's true

I swear,
I would've fallen in love with you

Digging a hole
To nowhere
Swinging around

Hummus
Pig farms
And when I turned around

You where there
Encouraging me on
But I guess I was wrong

And when you walk by
I stop talking
I breathe
But you keep walking
And only your scent do you leave

I inhale it deeply
For it's all I have left

I would've loved you
If you had let me try
But you dropped me
On the cold, hard ground
Without a goodbye.

The author's comments:
This poem is about a boy I once knew. We went to summer camp together, and also on a church mission trip to Mexico. For my poem, I drew from those memories, my personal feelings and how I remember them.
