A Strange Thing
Love is a strange thing
It fills you up until you are about to burst
It drains away your joy, until you’re only a hollow shell
It comes in many forms
A mother’s smile as she holds her child for the first time
The sound of wedding bells ringing in a chapel
Soft words whispered in the dark, that only two people ever hear
A gentle kiss under the full moon, one that never seems to end
Tears hitting the cold ground, the heart breaking as they fall
A warm arm around your shoulders, holding you together
It laughs in health, it sheds tears over pain
It’s a wonderful thing, but sometimes it causes so much pain
It hopes and dreams of tomorrow, but still fears and worries about today
It gives life a new flavor not found anywhere else
It can be hard to find and even harder to understand
It isn’t always constant; sometimes it grows weary and weak
But other times it has wings like eagles and soars above the pain
It is patient and kind
It goes deeper than anything else this world has ever known
And the best part is, if well cared for, it can last a lifetime
Sometimes even longer
