Lost in the Snow
When I was 8 I lived for Christmas in Maine.
Seeing my families faces every Christmas break
And playing in the snow in the icy winters
Still warms my heart
I can remember the way I would feel
Careless and free, everyday was surreal
Like a dream to me now,
I want those days back.
The beauty in simplicity
And the tenderness in loved ones’ smiles
Surrounded by people who love you,
Feeling the cold air upon your skin,
And coming home to piquant smells of dinner
Replays itself over and over in my head
Those times are forever to me,
With their familiarity in my heart
I relive these moments
And reminisce on the security of home.
A sentiment that is beloved and too often belittled,
Will always be a part of me.
