Irish Roots

The beloved Ireland is my home country,
The flag so majestic and beautiful -
Green as grass, white as snow, and
Orange as the day’s last light.
Irish roots are in my veins
And Celtic music in my blood.
The majestic lute so light and
Heartily filled, the music
That is the stories of old lore
Told and passed from generations,
The beautiful bagpipes that
Everyone else hates but Irish folk
Think plays a haunting tune,
The beautiful fashion that is the kilt worn
By Scotts when the Land of Ire was still ruled
By Britain – the fashionable plaid and the lucky
Rabbit’s foot,
The traditional rarity of haggis stew,
The Irish wolfhound – big, grey, beautiful
As a mare and well known and loyal to the Scotts
O! what luck an Irishman’s dream it is to
Frolic in a field of four and three
Leafed clover and carry on myths and lore
Of the Trinity, Tree of Life, and the leprechaun.
Ah, yes, I’m glad to be Irish.
Even after I’m dead and gone, the Irish
Is still with me.
