The warmth,
Of the brightly colored day
Squeezed in so tight most wouldn’t bear to stay
Following the bobbing heads
Heat stuck upon my forehead
Were here, were here!
Liberty so green
Thoughts of the past still lingering
But I won’t look back
This lady called liberty is calling me
Life is fresh
Fresher than it’ll ever be

The author's comments:
This piece was to give children and teens a sense of feeling of what it was like for immigrants, and the blood, sweat, and tears they put into being free and living a better life. It shows a sense of excitement and freedom.
