Pyromania
A tiny spark flickers in the darkness,
For that is how all fires begin.
Throughout time, closeness has allowed people’s emotions to surface,
But when one cannot see past deceptions,
Another’s courage is lost to say “Everything’s not ok.”
Once upon a time, there was a bridge,
Standing tall like a national monument,
Made of distant memories of the past,
Built by two people with a single bond,
One of the strongest that seemed to withstand time,
Yet it was just an illusion.
My hands slowly extends towards a match,
Hesitant, yet they begin to light it with a mind of its own.
Your laughter’s full of overflowing joy as we are apart,
Yet it’s like a bullet ricocheting, echoing through my mind,
Unstoppable, as my heart digs a deeper hole to hide from it.
How stupid I was for believing that goodbyes would end here,
It is time to move on, one step at a time,
Into the dark, unknown abyss that begins to blanket around me,
As I finally take comfort watching the flames,
Engulfing the ruins of the bridge that was once a part of my world,
Finally acknowledging that all my hopes for the future have soared out the window.
I shed one last tear as I walked away, without looking back,
From the wisps of the calming inferno.
