A Somewhat Empty World
If I were a tree
I imagine myself
being large
and willowing
and vivacious.
I imagine having leaves
that would flutter in the soft wind
and strong, yet smooth bark.
I imagine myself surrounded
by a breathtaking world.
A pond by my side, maybe
and wild grass hugging my trunk
so that I am forever positive
that I am not alone.
I imagine
a beautifully contented world
for myself,
yet never once have I imagined
my branches bearing
flowers
or fruit
or children playing at my roots.
I imagine myself
alive
but never quite
happy.
