The Winner Takes it All
That feeling after qualifying is one to remember,
It’s one you cannot explain, but will be remembered forever.
The rush of my adrenaline took over,
And at that moment, I felt like a hero.
The relay was two seniors, a sophomore, plus me,
We had been trying so hard to qualify in the free.
April fifth was the day, taking place in Emporia,
Which so happened to be my birthday.
We started the race entering the silent and still water, having only one goal in mind,
And that was to win, finishing with a state bound time.
Off went the buzzer and in went our first swimmer.
The second, the third, then me; all coming out as winners.
I touched the wall and sure enough,
I look at our time and there it was.
That beautiful time we’d been waiting so long to see,
Taking home a first place and a qualifying time in the free.

I want readers of my poem to see that anything is possible, and to always follow their dreams.
