We dance like a splendid melody
Each step
Flawlessly captured
Who are you?
Your mask is a curtain
Tainting the truth of you beyond the candlelight
Your smile devours my thoughts
Who are you?
We circle around the room
Never ceasing
The click, click, click of our many steps makes me sure…
This is beautifully contagious
Who are you?
We can’t stop.
We move in supposed secrecy
Everyone is watching…
How is it you won’t let me notice?
Who are you?
Spin.
Twirl.
You lay me in your arms and I look up
A smile so soft, so promising
I turn away one moment
You’re gone.
Only the candlelight is left…
Illuminating the dark.
My eyes open,
I understand now
Only a dream.

This piece was an assignment in my Creative Writing class. It was a found poem and I really enjoyed it! It gave me the timeless effect of a ball, filled with big dresses and men in tuxes!
