Forever young
I’ll never be too big to crawl into your Levi- covered lap and talk about my day-- although one day you may be too old.
I’ll never be too cool to give you bear hugs, to try and squeeze you as hard as you squeeze me, to step back into my childhood for the briefest moments to remind myself that you will be there for me.
I’ll never be so grown up that I don’t kiss your stubbly cheek goodbye in the morning,
hello after school
and goodnight before bed.
I’ll never be too distant to shamelessly tell you I love you - the words have become synonymous with your presence.
I’ll never be too angry to stop loving you or even liking you – you are ingrained in my brain as all things good and happy.
I’ll never be so far away that you won’t forever be the man in my life, the pillar in my days, the one I can trust and count on in all times.
You are the person on this earth sent to comfort me in hard times, celebrate in good times, rebuke me in tough times, and to simply live the rest of the time together.
I will never be too old to call you my daddy.
