A woman holds her child to her heart,
It’s cold, It’s chilly, Everything is dark.
No one can imagine what she’s been through,
She can’t even remember when she’s finally come to.

People gawk and stare as they disport from the scene,
They whisper and glare as if it made a difference.
Spiraling downward went her life when she was only a teen,
She was dumb, She was foolish, She was full of resistance.

Needles and injections were all that was in sight,
Fights accompanied by a lover almost every night.
Bruises and bumps she couldn’t recall,
Hair falling out that she tried to stall.

Almost too sick to get up and walk,
The news of being pregnant was of latest talk.
When the time came she was squeaky clean,
Her priorities finally came in between.

Now the love of her child was all that she needed,
Her boyfriend drifted out of view but time still proceeded.
By now her hair was finally lost,
She wasn’t able to see doctors and family because of the cost.

Bones now frail and face pale,
House foreclosed and up for sale.
Now there’s a hollering as piercing as a dart,
It’s not her son but the swings in the park.

I write to show people that what there going through if they're having a down day can always be worse and that we should think of the brighter side to things because others could have been through way worse and still have a smile on their face.
