Autumn
As I took my seat beside you today,
there was something in the way the shadows
played with the beauty of your form and it was
devastating to watch, as I felt as though I were thawing out and liquefying.
The angels have whispered that it isn't meant to be,
the angels have told me that now isn't the time;
so maybe in the future
our paths will meet again and we will
merge like rusty tracks with weeds growing between the planks.
But at the corner of your eye-
like the shadow you see at night but
you don't quite look at,
the faceless forms in the hallway
surrounding you but not existing-
this seat is where I will always love you most.
