Of My Future Children

I'll block them from this struggle,

From dilemmas that I face.

But knowledge travels quickly

With temptation at fast pace,

It's water that we cannot see

Flowing down the steepest hills.

So I'll guard my future children

From these little orange pills.

How does a person stay good and safe

From a life passed out on the floor

When there's bad in the room next door

And bad in the bathroom drawer?

Everywhere surrounded,

And everywhere exposed.

The author's comments:
When something (i.e. dangerous pills) is placed so obviously in front of a person at such a young age, like my parents innocently and unknowingly did to me, it is almost impossible not to wonder.. to research and gain knowledge, and once you have that, impossible not to experiment.
