I Hear America Arguing

I hear America arguing, those harsh words I hear.
Those of students, arguing with the teachers over a measly percentage point,
The teens arguing with parents because they were caught drinking,
The boy arguing about checking out a girl, the boyfriend arguing because it was his girlfriend,
The child arguing to get that toy, the customer arguing for a refund,
The young worker arguing for a break, this boss arguing that he’s a lazy worker,
The teen’s got a curfew that he missed Friday, Saturday, and Sunday,
The arguing of the teen mom, the dead beat baby daddy, or of them both with their parents.
Each arguing to get their way and only for themselves,
The optimists that see all good—the aggressive pessimists that are never pleased,
Arguing with persistent attitudes their strong opinions fly.
