I am me
"Are you serious?"
"Shouldn't you be in all prep classes?"
The questions that I've heard time and time again
I don't follow what others believe
I won't change me
I am different
My skin is the color of milk chocolate
I speak español
And my parents struggle with english
But that doesn't effect who I am
I am just me
Eating tortillas con frijoles everyday
Having a big familia
And laughing out loud
I can also be smart
I can be what I want to be
I also have dreams as big as the Rocky Mountains
Mis sueños son igual que los tuyos
We may not follow the same path
but we all reach our destination
I continue towards my goal
I can be in AP classes
And I can succeed
As I walk in the classroom
A million eyes stare
A million whispers can be heard
A million seconds pass until they look away
The many symbols on the clear whiteboard flood my head
My mind may not be the best but it's good enough for me
Ignoring their whispers, avoiding their stares, and looking away
I raise my hand and answer correctly
I can also be smart
I can be what I want to be
I am different
Soy 100% Mexicana
