Dragon

I hope one day I can convince myself
That everything is okay.
That this is your battle,
And winning is all you know.

It's just like a dragon.
It's scary, it's insane.
No one normal
Would speak of it in public.

Which leaves me all alone with my dragon.
It stares me in the face
As I try not to look it in the eye.
I stand still, hoping it goes away.

Behind me is an army of people who could help.
Mothers, fathers, old, and young.
They're standing here for me,
Ready to go.

This dragon has chased me.
Swiped at me,
Knocked me down,
And made me cry.

I'm tired,
My body aches,
And it feels like my head could explode.
I'm too tired to deal with it.

Too tired to call my army,
Too stressed to think about it,
Too anxious to talk about it.
Too strong to stop going.

Someday I will kill this dragon.
I'll come out stronger than ever.
Just to face another soon.
To remind myself I'm strong.

And everybody has a dragon.
And everybody is strong enough to defeat it.
And everybody gets scared.
And everybody can be a fighter.
