Wishes
I was offered a wish.
in my mind
in the band-room hallway
one wish
I imagined
how happy I’d be
selfish
my first wish was danny.
my first wish was beautiful
conceited and vain
wanted love
wanted comfort
wanted those pretty eyes
desperate
my first wish was hopeless.
I doubt even magic
could change him
make me change
stop being mean
make me honest
perfect
my second wish was perfect.
my second wish was for thomas
fixing ian
up out of the hospital bed
the light back in his eyes
thomas
my friend back
my second wish was perfect
I was offered one wish.
in my mind I chose
I’d like to think
if it were real
I would choose right
like I did
stop being selfish
stop hiding by the band hallway
hiding from myself
dreaming of wishes.
