A Light Bulb
I reach out for ideas…but they pull away.
Frustration begs me to give up,
Yet stubbornness keeps me pinned in place.
Setting that pen to the paper opens a gate between the world and my head.
But often it feels like racing my own shadow,
Ideas impossible to get a grip on,
Ever so elusive.
Glaring at the pencil gets me nowhere,
And so far- nowhere is all I’ve gotten.
The page remains blank and lifeless,
Empty and cold.
It’s gravitational pull still beckons me near,
Waiting patiently for words to gush out between it’s slim sapphire stripes.
The nervous “tap, tap, tap” of the pen drones on…
Thinking, thinking, thinking…
But inspiration still refuses to inspire…
Suddenly- a light bulb flickers on,
Silently growing brighter and brighter, spreading warmth across the page.
Emotion flows from the pen,
Thoughts materialize as the ink dances and jumps from line to line.
Until the page comes to life,
And a smile slips to my lips.
