bless
God Bless
That pregnant girl
You called a S***
And that boy
You called a Loser
That girl in homeroom
Who you shoved aside
And the boy
With scars on his wrists
That high school dropout
You called a Hood
And the girl you called Fat
In the lunchroom at school
That girl
Who knows you talk about her
Behind her back
And the silent boy
You laughed at
For crying
When has there ever been justice?
Or equality?
Or a fair shot at living?
When has wealth ever not mattered?
Or your family?
Or where you’re from?
When has race ever been overlooked?
Or gender?
Or who you fall in love with?
We are always judged
Always aware
That people are watching
And ranking
And pretending to know anything about us
We have no idea
What goes on
Behind closed doors
Behind that smile
Behind that mask
We have no idea
What secrets are kept
What lies have been told
What words have been lost
Because that s***
Couldn’t protect herself
And that loser
Has no house
That girl you pushed
Already has a collection of bruises
From home
And that boy with cuts
Has secrets he can never tell
That boy who left school
Is now the man of the house
And the fat girl
Is going without food
For approval
The victim of gossip
Is thinking of a handful of pills
And a rope hanging from the ceiling
And a gun to her head
That crying boy
Visits his mother
In the hospital every day
There’s no such thing as impurity
When you’re talking about innocence
And no such thing as purity
When you’re talking about life itself
Everything has flaws
And everything bends under pressure
Maybe all things happen for a reason
Maybe everything will find its own place
Maybe we can wish
For a land free of scars
For people without pasts
For no crime
For no tears
For no death
For freedom
For acceptance
For diversity
And the hope that someday
Everyone will have a chance
