WHAT I CALLED YOU

I was shy
You were bold
But you made me laugh
You seemed to understand
So I started to call you my friend
We would walk the streets at night
Whispering words only we understood
We felt like philosophers
But we were just dreamers under the stars
Sitting cold ground
Taking pictures that made us feel like art
I started to call you my best friend
The one I confided in
My partner in crime
We would ask the sky
“why are boys so complicated?”
We never did get a response
But we didn’t care
So we continued to skip through life
Like someone pressed the fast forward button
And suddenly we were women
And we were scared

But excited at the same time
I started to call you twin
And people use to ask “are you related?”
And we giggled and said “yes, we are twin supermodels”
I look back on the years
And every memory makes me smile
I remember you said you would castrate the man that dared to hurt me
But I got hurt a lot
So you settled by coming over
We watched The Notebook three times
And chocolate became our secret lover
Now I call you my other soul
Because I feel like the universe is telling us
To take on the world together
And we will
And we will be fine
Because …
My friend
My sister
My telepathic therapist
My other soul
Is by my side
