Balloons

like the balloons
I let go of as a child,
I had to let go of you.
and like I watched
the balloons fly off to
somewhere I couldn't reach,
I watched you fall
too far out for me to see.
I lost you,
like those balloons,
and I can't ever get you back.
people told me it was
just a small loss,
and they still do,
but for little me,
it was, and is, a big deal.
but maybe one day,
I'll be able to let you go
from my heart,
just like all those
colorful balloons.
