To the friend I once knew
Strong, in the red, white, and blue
I miss the friend I once knew
You left only a boy of 18
Returned a man, a soldier, humble and brave
To war you were sent
Be safe, your mother said
Now home, on a pair of dog tags and under a flag
The letter told of how you fought
Brave and strong, with a humble heart
Now remembered by a pair of dog tags and a flag
To the friend I once knew
Strong, in red, white, and blue
Rest in peace.
