"Yet if hope has flown away, In a night or in a day, In a vision or in none, Is it therefore the less gone? All we see or seem, Is but a dream within a dream. . ." ~Edgar Allan Poe.

We all keep silent,
Our deepest pains,
Our heavy hearts,
Keeping the one we love,
All in the dark. . .

This silence hurts,
But it is mine to bear.
I can take it for them,
No matter how unfair. . .

The crushing dark,
The pain, it sparks,
All the silence,
And all the hurt,
Carried forever,
In my sad, heavy heart. . .

The author's comments:
This poem I wrote in the mindset of a sort of masochist who keeps all the pain and sorrow of their friends and family to themselves, trying to shoulder the weight of it for them. It was inspired by a friend of mine.
