Once Upon a Time

Quietness,
eating away at my heart.
Solitude,
threatening my existence.
Emptiness,
filling me up with the cold.
Loneliness,
Chilling my deep-buried soul.
Time.
Day in
and day out
for every
hour to hour.
Never-ceasing to fail
in isolating
me from the Others.
My raspy voice,
unused breath,
my
words
melting
like dew in
the early sun.
Unseen,
unseen through the rain,
through sleet and snow.
Unseen in the light,
unseen in the dark.
I’m an empty soul,
wandering,
a nothing,
a no one.
But I was someone,
once upon a time.
