Empire
The view from up 102 stories:
a city, with its arms stretched up to the sky.
scarlet bus tops race through concrete hallways
and play tag with sunny yellow taxis;
beeps of laughter echo
against open doors. Lights
grin – and illuminate a world where
the opportunity is endless.
But to her, 102 stories is her end:
mammoth buildings teeter on cracked foundations,
human error, laziness, at its worst;
ready to fall on faded billboards and hopeless people.
As she looks down, she wonders if she will fall,
somersault, scream – fast, like a penny would
and dive straight through the concrete below.
