Broken Eyes
Oh poor child
do you not see?
do you not see the world?
Do you not see how things are wrong
and broken
and bitter?
through your eyes
you see the pink chalk on the sidewalk
and the popsicle dripping down your face.
you see cartoons, and not news
you see candy, and not vegtables
you see play, and not work.
you do not see what the world is
you do not see the wars.
but you see the ice cream truck,
and the pool.
do you not understand?
do you not?
do you let your imagination run wild
do you not understand
do you not worry?
in your eyes you see colors
you see the good in people,
you do not see the bad.
oh poor child
you do not understand,
your sticky pink popsicle
dripping
down
your
face
will
soon
