Mum's in the Morning
The leaves may be brown
 For winter is near

 But one flowers persistent
Never dying though the cold air blows
The first frost came 'while ago
 But still this flower shows

The mums spread their petals far and long
The blossoms a brilliant sun ray of yellow
 The buds are deep green
In an earnest attempt to keep sprouting

Each gusty morning I look out the window
To see if they're still there
 If they've given up yet
But the more diamonded the grass looks from the cold Autumn frost
The more the mums grow in their yellow, sun rayed tint

I give them some credit cold, gusty, and mornings don't easily mix
If only everyone could share in their canary delight
