Afraid and Alone
I woke up, thrashing around in the darkness.
 My arm flailed everywhere,
searching for a blanket or something of protection.
I heard a loud noise escape from my mouth
but it did not register that it was coming from me.
 Screams of fear.
 Screams of terror.
I felt afraid and I felt alone.
 My dreams were fuzzy
and unclear to what they were about.
I shivered in the black abyss
yet cold sweat ran down my face.
 My body parts felt detached.
 I tried to move but
my muscles were frozen in terror.
No one could hear me and
 no one could care.
I was afraid and I was alone.
