gumdrops are spread across the table
m&ms on the floor
icing is smeared on the wall
sugar is sprinkled like snow around me

my hands are sticky from gumdrops
my hair glued with sweets around my face
My shirt?
is colored with chocolate
coated with icing
and sparkles with sugar
though my tongue, quite satisfied


My smile I know is as bright as the sun
my eyes glittering with joy
as I happily place the last gumdrop on the roof
of my gingerbread house

With gumdrop trees
a m&m doorway ,
and icing icicles
It is a masterpiece
to me, at least

Standing back to admire my work
I giggle with glee and clap my hands
"Look, Mommy!"
