flying

back and forth
back and forth
i pump my legs
harder
higher
faster
imagine i’m flying
if i don’t see
the chains
the playground
the rocks
just the sky
block out all sounds
but the birds
imagine i’m flying
towards the blue
towards tomorrow
away from the ground
away from everything
imagine i’m flying
i forget
what
who
i am
leave the swing behind
i jump
i soar
i fly!
i’m flying!
shock wave
through my feet
through my ankles
bone grates
against bone
crawl away
on hands
and knees
remember
I was not made to fly.
