arizona
desert fire blazes the
candle in her western soul, flickering
close to her pumping heart
like the jumpy prairie dog moving like the
big dust cloud swirling
internal clockwork ticking like
the rarity of the rain, the pounding
thirst
her mouth dry and barren like the
empty dunes, but smile warm and
eyes misty blue like the late afternoon
sky over arizona, peering over
the cactus in the lonely window
to see if the light is ahead.
