Someone You Used To know
Do you ever look at me,
and see the reflection of what used to be?
Sometimes when I can’t help but stare,
our memories a constant plea,
I see the kid I used to know.
When the mask falls,
only then I recognize,
the person who was once my everything.
It hurts the most,
when you look back,
and I can see,
you truly see,
the old me.
Behind all the mirrors and smoke,
a shadow of my former self,
calls for help.
“It’s me, don’t you see?”
Of course, you don’t
and just like that the moment ends.
I keep hoping I’ll wake up,
that these last 6 months will be a dream,
but the truth is,
I’m not that girl anymore.
Long gone are the days you knew everything about me,
replaced by the new you,
the one who doesn’t call,
the one who doesn’t text,
the one who watches me fade,
and break,
and can’t help but look away.
If I see you,
and you see me,
then what's with all this pretending?
But storytales end,
and memories fade.
Soon I’ll be someone you used to know,
and you’ll remain perfect and untouched,
while the truth of what you did,
leaves scars on my soul.
