“Imposter”

Written By Kami L’le

“They laugh at me because I’m different; I laugh at them because they’re all the same.”

~Kurt Cobain

I don’t write like they do.

They use hyperboles that are a million times better than mine.

They use personification that flies out of their mouths.

The words they write are intelligenter and actually grammatically correct.

Their sentences are brief.

My writing style is different, however.

My works are long and they drone on.

It feels like a crime that I can’t rhyme.

But I write from the bottom of my heart.

Maybe that’s why my lines are random.

But I don’t write like they do.

They tell me I don’t deserve to be here.

They laugh behind my back and scold my words.

Maybe it’s because I don’t use repetition.

Because I don’t use repetition?

Yeah, because I don’t use repetition.

I’m supposed to be sharing my best poem, but this isn’t it,

So maybe I shouldn’t be here.

Maybe I am just an imposter stepping in for the real Kami Olsen.

Maybe my works are badly written.

But that makes it special

Because I don’t write like they do.
