Furious and unforgiving, the saltwater stings

The feeling in my fingertips fades,

I find myself floating, falling, sinking.

Suspended in time, suspended in water

I’m met with darkness and silence,

Secretly longing for a lifeline.

Burning sunlight shatters the surface,

Streaming through in moments, with blinding flashes

I close my eyes, embracing the warmth.

In a matter of seconds, I’m above the tide

Gasping for air, reaching for any sign of safety

Out of the water, but it lingers in my mind

Standing on the pier, I gaze down

Calm and gentle, the saltwater deceives

I find myself reflecting, regretting,

Resuming.
