The Overlooked Squirrel
Day by day, I sit beneath the large tree
I watch the animals roam around curiously
One catches by eye and comes to me
He looks me in the eyes and sits on my knee
I stop my breath as it moves slowly
I sit still, scared of what it might be
He is a small creature that does no harm to me
I begin to pet it and feel empathy
Everyone overlooks the poor squirrel I see
I watch the bystanders with a face of enmity
I look away with no negative thought in my mentality
Just me and this overlooked squirrel from the tree
We watch others begin to gather nearly
Me and the overlooked squirrel smile with glee
