Dining With Our Ghosts
They gathered around the table,
ready to accuse each other -
To turn on each other.
Had nobody been capable of murder then maybe this party would have ended differently.
But with this crowd, you can never be too careful.
The lights flickered
Just as they had when this whole affair started.
When the shock of the outage caused a wave of quiet
and the reemergence of light revealed their fallen guest.
The lights flickered.
And when the room was once again overflowing with blinding white,
The table was empty
Everyone was gone.
Perhaps it was better that way.
