Not everybody knows my authentic voice,

I keep my voice in me to prevent people from meeting the real me,

Everybody wants to know your weakness,

They will use it against you,

I bite my tongue.

I can be seen as more of a lone star,

Most people can’t relate to me,

And when they don’t, they reject me,

They will take my energy, my shine,

Take away what is mine,

No one will ever take away anything that is mine as long as I stay quiet.

I am my own keeper,

I WILL protect my authentic voice.

The author's comments:

Not everybody knows my authentic writer's voice, but some can catch on that I have a strong voice. I prefer not to use it; sometimes, even on topics I am passionate about, and I am passionate about almost everything I do. I try to bite my tongue. I have dealt with past experiences; everybody wants to know your weakness ( my generation specifically). Cancel culture appears to be a huge trend lately; people are able to turn a subject into something negative and deflect to take others' credit.

I choose not to share my voice; often, my energy is at a high frequency that most people haven’t even come across. They don’t understand it; I have come to learn that most times, when people don’t understand something, they often reject it. This poem was my way of expressing the obstacles I have overcome.
