The Sky Monsters
This is for my people who take pictures of every sunset,
Filling their camera roll and taking up all their storage,
To keep the beauty of the sky close to their hearts;
For my people who stare up at the sky when nightfall hits,
When nightfall hits and the stars make the atmosphere shine bright,
As bright as water when the sun hits it at the perfect time;
For my people who search for the moon almost every day,
And when it’s at its fullest you stare for hours on end letting the weight of the day slip away,
And when it's taken off you carry the weight on your shoulders until it reappears;
For my people who immediately smile and calm when the rains pour,
Pounding against the roof and windows of the house,
Sounding like fists pounding against a door;
For my people who rely on the weather to depict their mood,
Except it is very backward and probably wouldn’t make sense to others,
Because when it's hot and sunny they get upset but when it's cool and rainy they get happy,
It is like making your own language with your best friend,
Because your true best friend is the sky;
For my people who lay in their driveway while the rain pours down on them,
Making them giggle and laugh,
Providing them with a sense of friendliness while they had a lonely day,
And making sure they realize they aren’t truly alone;
For my people who love when the clocks change,
Because the sunset is earlier,
Allowing them to gaze while waiting for the bus,
And giving them a chance to view the masterpiece that is a sunset while doing the dishes after dinner;
You are seen and heard,
Your anxiety, overthinking, and mental health are lying to you,
You are unique and beautiful, and you deserve a lot more than you think,
You Are Loved.
