The Rainstorm of Life
I tossed in thoughts,
All of the hard
All of the messy
All of the struggle
All of the broken
I thought I knew.
I was sure I was drowning.
The rivers and pools of tears surrounding my feet -
I was determined to stare down at those dark waters.
My eyes were bound towards that hopeless-looking ground.
But then I looked up -
And the droplets falling onto me looked so much brighter in the light.
The water I thought was dampening me turned out to be washing me in redemption.
The droplets I thought were hindering my view were just making it anew.
The clouds I thought were darkening my world were really waiting to unveil the light.
I looked back -
It’s all bedewed in drops
Droplets of beauty
Droplets of pain
But it all reflects
It all gleams.
When I look back, it’s the water that glimmers
The moments of continuing to go
And the moments of holding close
The moments of everything’s lost
And the moments of shattering thought.
The water made it life
The water showed the bright.
I thought wet was bad but it turns out…
It’s beautiful.
I couldn't have hoped life could be so beautiful...
until it rained.

This piece is a personal reminder to remember to look at life and everything painful and hard in it with a lens that without those things life wouldn't be the same type of beautiful. We can only recognize the true beauty that is in the gift of life when we are broken because through that we experience healing. The pain in life is real, but the growth and the encouragement that can come from situations being redeemed is often so much greater than we can imagine. (Ephesians 3:20) The complexity, the emotion, and the ups and downs are what add depth and meaning to this beautiful thing called life.
