"Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better" - Maya Angelou

While you might not be there

I still feel you with me

That does not mean touch

Nor does it mean see or hear

Grandmother…

You are here with me

Everyday I can feel your warm hold

Your smell of cigarette

Lasts forever in my nose

Grandmother…

I know you see me

Doing who-knows-what

Going who-knows-where

Doing the things we loved most

Grandmother…

Dear, sweet grandmother…

I miss you most.

The author's comments:

This poem was inspired by me late grandmother who past away when I was young. She was my best friend and the person who was closest to me. Her death impacted my life so much that I am still grieving today.

In loving memory of Billie Norman.

I love the powerful last lines, it's often difficult to write an ending to a poem that will last in the reader's memory
