What is this life worth if we aren’t awake to see it

All of us are stuck between the safety of being hidden

And the fame of being seen

Fighting an ego

The ego finds many ways to distract us

From government to astronomy

Even relationships and astrology

Although, no ego can withhold the power of the brain

So go out and use the power the ego holds

Unleash your brain from its stem and let it be free

Forget the animosity

Forget the fame

Forget the hierarchy

And forget your name

Your body and mind have limits

So release your soul outside of the city limits of your mind

A soul can never be lost if it knows where it’s going

So don’t let it forget

Keep hold of that dream

Guide your soul to the end of time

Don’t be a slave to a dime

And remember,

We are more than just mankind.

The author's comments:

This poem dives into the battle between ego and consciousness. It is very personal to me, and one of my favorite works I have done.

I have been writing poetry for the last couple of years and I have nearly 200 poems written in my journal. I am currently a high school senior and my goal is to become a published author one day.
