Growing Up
Aging is scary, petrifying actually.
When did I trade in being tucked into bed for staying up into the late hours?
My bedtime stories became endless scrolling on social media.
When did I trade addition for complex Statistics?
That’s the problem, I never did trade anything.
I was forced to grow up
Pushed and shoved to mature.
Who said I was ready to outgrow my Tinkerbell pajamas?
The clock kept ticking, no matter how hard I closed my eyes.
I saw my parents gain wrinkles around their eyes and their bodies more sensitive.
My dad no longer has the endurance to play sports with me.
I wish to be that little child again.
The little girl with more energy than she knew what to do with.
That little girl who would play outside until dark.
The little girl who only stressed about showering before Scooby Doo started.
That little girl grew into a young woman with no warning.
That little girl would be proud though.
She is all grown up.
