I've Always Wondered
I’ve Always Wondered
why God
created high school dances.
The bombarding rush of dopamine
wishes they could be seduced
by the same 6 foot tall piece of meat
for a total of four minutes and 23 seconds.
What honestly made Him think
two hundred horny teenagers,
outlining a rough draft of an animal planet
episode on ‘Lions Mating 101’
would be a good idea?
Well, if reasoning leads to effect,
and time leads to aging,
what the heck leads to intelligence?
But why would intelligence play in the first quarter,
if the quarterback obtained over the ‘recommended’
number of concussions?
Why did I ask that lonely guy in the corner for a dance
if he rejects me anyway?
I’ve always wondered if God’s creation of pretty girls
that entrap a line of boys behind them
ever feel afraid.
Does their intelligence lead to confidence,
or does the rush of dopamine lead to rejection?
I’ve always wondered.

This poem is a glimpse into my mind. The thoughts I ponder over in my free time led me to make this tonal poem. Does everyone feel self-counsious? Does everyone think they aren't good enough? Maybe the pressure highschool makes us think it is all in our head.
