Snowman
Snowman
Its big, round uneven body
Balls of snow, different sizes, unevenly stacked one upon the other
The pure white, reflecting the sun’s brightness
It stands tall
The one next to it moves slowly,
Shrinking with every passing minute
Droplets of water peel away and run down its body
The girl places the hat on top,
The crooked sticks poke out of its side in awkward angles
She steps back to look at it from afar and admire her work
Building it was entertaining
But seeing the finished product brought her so much joy
Others walked by on the street
Smiling and pointing to the snowman
The snowman sharing joy
Around it are indents from footsteps in the snow,
The aftermath of the long day of snowman building
The sky now stained with pinks, oranges, and blues
Icicles hang from trees up above
Snow takes the place of the leaves that were there a few months ago
Each snowman reminding you of the past winter,
Of the harsh blizzards and the days spent in snow gear
Of the night by the fire with a hot chocolate
And the twinkling christmas lights around the tree
For me,
Snowmen remind me of more than Christmas,
Reminders of my birthday celebrations
Spent ice skating and making snowmen
Reminders of the days spent outside when I was little,
Building snowmen taller than me with my family
If I were a snowman
It would be very boring
Standing still all day
just to eventually be melted away
A snowman in summer would be out of place
Being uncomfortable
Rushing for the air conditioning
Before becoming a puddle
The snowman stands, smiling
Looking out into the street
Decked out with long strands of glowing red and green lights
As snow starts to fall,
Christmas just around the corner,
And the snowman could not be happier
Snowmen are fun characters,
Stories about snowmen coming alive at night
Only to be awake from dusk to dawn,
They are big parts of childhoods
And hold memories, just hoping to hold on

I made this piece inspired by my love for winter. I love the snow and doing stuff outside in the winter like ice skating and building snowmen and I have so many memories from the winter time that I won't forget. I also added a small part of the poem about snowmen in summer, I also really like summer and with summer approaching, I think it was interesting to think about how snowmen would act in the summer and how out of place that would be. Overall, winter is a very fun and memorable time for me and I enjoy writing about those special moments of winter.
