Dog Days of Summer

June 9, 2021

August flees into the windy trees,

Golden fish in the creek take me closer to Heaven

When the ripe dripping air is drenched buttery with corn

And I gulp mouthfuls of rich popcorn while watching old movies

When Tampico is served around a campfire flickering with stories

My questions are gone.

I am so close to Heaven.

Far from my brothers,

Stranded between illusions and delusions,

Sparkling with newness and longing,

Creaking like a playground swing,

I am so close to Heaven—

Take good care of August.

She will not leave you alone.

The author's comments:

When I say I am far from my brothers, I'm talking about last summer, when my oldest brother finally left home to start his own life, our summer became much more peaceful. My dad helped me see that this poem, when centered, made the shape of a lanturn.

"It Will Be Good." (complicated semi-spiritual emotional story.)

"Upon his bench the pieces lay
As if an artwork on display
Of gears and hands
And wire-thin bands
That glisten in dim candle play." -Janice T., Clockwork[love that poem, dont know why, im not steampunk]

ok, i dont have much context for that. I'm not the woodsy ones in my family. in my immediate family everybody but me loves hunting and Vermont and farms. i like writing, and not killing animals... and not vermont. i don't like woods or hills. vermont is all woods and hills.
