The Wedding Ring
When they were young,
She wore me with pride.
Taking any moment to flaunt my shining wears,
To desperately show that their love is true.
As they grew older,
I adjusted to my life.
I was a witness to their adventures,
The third passenger of their love.
One day, a storm rolled in.
He wanted a family, a sense of stability,
While she wanted to experience the unknown.
She still wore me, more to convince herself than others.
It hit me hard when they stopped smiling at each other.
I desperately wanted to hit the reset button,
Just to see a glimpse of that young wonder again.
Alas, there was a day when he left forever.
Now I sit, hidden away in a forgotten drawer,
A sour reminder of a tainted love.
Once glittering and cherished,
I lay tarnished, alone.
