Societal Demise
Baa baa black sheep
Have you any hope
For regaining consciousness
And lifting from the devil’s moat
The eyes that don’t see
Replace the light with darkness
The ears that don’t hear
Replace the noise with silence
Voices shouting
But no one listening
The love surrounding its receivers
Slowly distancing
Stomps of protest
Marching on
Reaching violence
Just before dawn
Platforms of lies
Grasp at straws
Desperately seeking
Entrance into unopened minds
Connections breaking
Ties weakening
Colors bleeding
And worlds falling
Awakening is simple
As simple as falling asleep
But if one doesn’t try
We’ll continue as sheep

My name is Kathryn Brown, and I am a Sophomore in high school. I wrote this piece about something that means a lot to me personally. It was a way to get my feelings about society and the worldwide situation down on paper in a creative way that could possibly speak to others. The structure of this poem is intentional as are many of the referances.
