Flowers
If life were a flower,
It would have dainty yellow petals—
Delicate and sensitive,
As fragile as a baby’s skin.
If life were a flower,
It would give a happy scent:
Sweet like fresh strawberries
On a hot summer day.
If life were a flower,
It would give a soft poetic sound,
Like a symphony orchestra,
As it flowed through the spring breeze.
If life were a flower,
It would have harsh flaws—
Thorns, red as blood,
Sharp enough to cut through leather.
If life were a flower,
Its petals would be fragile,
Yet it would be hard to pull from the soil,
With a stem as tough as milkweed.
For Life, the flower,
Death would come quickly.
As fast as the seasons change,
Its petals would hit the ground.
However, Life, the flower,
Would return in the spring
To live delicately,
To give its sweet smell,
And to play its soft summer symphony
Once more.
